Coprocessors

Only specific purposes. Some of those can actually boot windows by themselves, since they are just a bunch of simple x86 cores stacked together, but performance is awful.

 

It's meant to be used as a MIMD processor (instead of SIMD style found in GPUs), where you can have it performing many small different things at once.

I was scrolling through facebook when I saw an ad for the facebook marketplace. One of the products reccomended to me was a xeon phi coprocessor.
Having never heard of these I had to check them out. They plug into a pcie and it looks like they are a secondary processor designed to help with mathematical computations. 

The intention is to use them with CAD software or computational programs. But of course, I have to wonder. Do they word with video games? Or does it only work for specific purposes?

Does anyone have experience or access to one of these?

The software needs to be made to work with it. No game engine AFAIK uses Xeon Phi's
