Audio vs Video?

web0623

I am looking for advice for my next upgrade.

My current system is :

Ryzen 3700x

16 gb 3600 RAM

RTX 2070

Corsair RM750x PSU

Arctis Pro wireless headset

I  am wondering what to upgrade next.  I have saved enough (I hope) for the upcoming RTX 3080 or wait to see AMDs offering but I am also considering investing in true audiophile headphones the HiFiMAN Ananda.  Both cost about the same.  Any thoughts?

if i am not wrong...

the RTX 3080 WILL NEED a new kind of PSU

Circling back to the question, ask yourself, what will you get the most use out of. Pick based on that

I however think that waiting for the benchmarks would be a better idea. That way, you'll know if the card is worth upgrading from or not.

Last I heard, most of the new cards will use the same power connectors they currently have. Only the reference and a few others are making the switch to 12-pin. Those that do make the switch will include an adapter so there is no need to change the psu.

As for upgrading the gpu or audio:

Are you happy with the performance you are currently getting in games? If so, don’t upgrade the gpu. I am not an audiophile so this might not be the same, but if you like how your current stuff sounds, don’t switch either. If you feel both are lacking, upgrade whichever will give you the most noticeable change or you would enjoy the most.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Adaptors have been leaked/announced though? I mean, 750w may or may not cut it, but good old PSU' should be fine.

Does this count for the fact you'll need to get a DAC? I would recommend audio (whether I would recommend that much is another story) the most to any build that's solid enough already. But if something feels like it's holding back performance (maybe you're 2070 cant push out max frames for your monitor), I would look into upgrading it. Really depends if you feel your current audio is lacking, too, because there is bliss in ignorance.

On that note, what monitor you have? It may be a valid upgrade.

I have aquired a FiiO E10K USB DAC and Headphone Amplifier, I just don't have anything to plug into it.  My monitor is a MSI Optix MAG341cq  ultrawide 1440p 100hz that I have overclocked to 120hz.
