Budget (including currency): basically non-existent, because im an essential employee in the US, which means ive been making about $600 per month the whole year. really i'd like it to be around $500-$600

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: for work, envisioneer express, which is about as demanding as minesweeper @ 240p
games: assassins creed, tomb raider, astroneer, apex, ARK, fallout, skyrim, rocksmith, farm sim, snowrunner, subnautica, batman arkham series... and a ton of others that range in demand

Other details
current build is a Rosewill Blackhawk Ultra
i cant remember what asus motherboard
fx-8320e
1600mhz corsair vengeance ddr3
thermaltake grand rgb 750w psu
5400rpm 1tb toshiba hdd
and an evga gtx 1070 sc thats constantly begging everything else in the system to keep up

with the upgrade i plan to keep the PSU because its only a year or two old
also keeping the gtx 1070 because it'll still easily play any game at ultra settings because im also keeping the 1080p60 monitor because i certainly dont have the budget to upgrade that (if i did i would be looking at 1440p such as Asus TUF VG27BQ 1440p165hz with gsync

planning on:
ryzen 5 3600
3200mhz corsair vengeance ddr4 probably just 16gb for now, but i keep hearing ram is gonna drop so maybe when i do this i can grab 32gb
MSI MPG B550 Gaming Edge WiFi atx but im really not set in stone on the motherboard, i would like the attached I/O shield (because that should just be the industry standard by now) and on-board wifi would be nice because i cannot run any cables so wifi is my only choice (i will not attempt powerline adapters, the house wiring sucks) but i have a USB wifi thats been working great for years
a 970 evo 500gb m.2 nvme just to start, and i'll look at getting a game drive later, but im also not set in stone, if theres something cheaper thats also well made, especially if i can get 1tb for a great price, i'll add it to the parts list

then i plan on modding the rosewill blackhawk case (which i made a post in case mods https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1240208-planning-stage-for-modding-an-old-blackhawk/ looking for some helpful tips)

i have tons of space so im thinking about putting a 360 AIO on the cpu, with the radiator top mounted (i think theres enough space on top to even do top-mounted with push-pull fans), but that might be way overkill for a ryzen 3600, i just have the space so i was thinking might as well have plenty of cooling in case i upgrade the CPU or overclock

no rush, im waiting for sale season to get parts, plus i keep hearing a big price drop is coming on ram and ssd's, hopefully mobos and cpu's come down too, right now my parts list is in the 700s

Sounds like a pretty good plan. I would suggest getting the MSI B550 pro VDH wifi, or the B550 Bazooka if you don't want wifi. Both will handle a 3600 with ease and save you some money over the Gaming Edge.

I would also suggest sticking with air cooling, or just a 240mm aio, as for a more budget conscious build it doesnt really make sense to spend money on an aio. A $50 tower cooler should do the trick easily for a 3600. Then if you find your case airflow is bad, you can spend the money saved on a case upgrade (which would also look nicer probably)

If you want to get even more for your money, I would suggest getting something like the kingston A2000 drive instead of the samsung. The 970 is blazing fast, but not a great value choice, and you probably wont notice the difference.

Hope this helps :)

looks like my local microcenter is having a sale i can grab a 3600X
looking to instead of the 500gb samsung m.2 i'll get a WD black 250gb, run it as a boot drive, and get a 2TB HDD for game storage
getting everything together also nets me the MSI B550 gaming edge wifi for $20 less

the sale gets me down under $600, though thats without a water set up

i need to double check my mounting holes because it looks like the top of the case only has 140 x 3 mounting, the back of the case is also a 140

got 3600x for the price of 3600
$50 for 16gb 3200
$50 for 2tb drive
$60 for the 250gb ssd
and $20 off the already on sale motherboard

then i come home and see that 3090 3080 and 3070 were properly announced, so that'll be next years upgrade, since christmas this year is reserved for PS5

On the subject of cooling, stick with the 3600x's stock cooler for now. If you do upgrade the cpu later on get beefier cooling then. For the 3600x though, the stock cooler really will do just fine. For now, that's money in pocket for living/upgrading other parts!

Yeah im running stock cooler.

Looking into new fans for the case instead, ones that the motherboard can control the speed of. RGB that can sync with this msi board would be nice, I was trying so hard not to go unicorn disco but screw it, let there be light.

Right now i'm just getting everything updated and drivers downloaded. Struggling with the wifi driver for the onboard wifi.
