Highest memory clock for gaming

I know that generally 3200 or 3600 is accepted as top tier for gaming, but I have seen instances where games can benefit from up to 4000mhz. Can anyone enlighten me on the “best” kit, regardless of diminishing returns? I’m looking at getting Dominator 4000 at the moment.
