How do HD598cs compare to more modern choices

I've had Sennheiser HD598cs for a long time and I still really like them. My cousin grabbed them as a present for me at 99USD years ago and they've been about as good as I could have hoped (wouldn't consider myself a super discerning audiophile for what its worth).

 

I never really see the 598cs recommended to people looking for newer headphones. Is this because their suggested retail price is somewhere north of 200USD when there isn't sale or are other options like the MX50s just bringing more to the table for people looking for new closed back headphones these days?
