Im kinda new to the pc world and i decided to start by upgrading an optiplex 790 with an i5-2400. I added a pny ssd a thermal take 500w psu and the graphics card is a msi gtx 970 and the integrated graphics work fine but when i plug the graphics card in and plug my hdmi into it theres no signal.

Change the option from Integreted GPU to Dedicated GPU in the BIOS. The name/location of the option change with every manufacturer. You should find it in the motherboard manual. If the motherboard doesn't have a manual (look up the name of the motherboard which is written somewhere, you should find it somewhere on the PCB). If you still can't find how look up the HP website and download all the manuals and see if they mention something
