Hello all :)
Prebuilt my computer some time back, and today out of the sudden there was no display.

Firstly, my computer is running on i5-8400F, so that's without the integrated GPU.

How do I determine if it is a:

1) Bad GPU
2) Bad HDMI Cable

or

3) Bad monitor?

Thanks.

Try each one at a time. Try a different cable. Then plug something else into your monitor. Finally, try a different monitor with your GPU.

Unfortunately, I do not have any spare parts with me at the moment :/

Do you have a friend, colleague or family member that has a HDMI cable and a monitor? If yes, go test it at their place. If no... im sorry.

Well, at the very least you can try a different source. There's no way all you have is a PC. No Roku, Xbox, something? I also find it bit hard to believe that you have only one HDMI cable. Surely, you have a TV you can gank one from.

If your computer is booting up, you could also try the following:

Quote

Reset your video driver

If you’re encountering display or graphics issues, you can press Ctrl+Shift+Win+B to force Windows to take action. This shortcut alerts the system to a potential graphics issue, which results in Windows restarting your video driver. This might help you fix any graphical corruption you’re seeing, without having to reboot your PC.

I got a working monitor and HDMI cable, and there is still no display. So I guess my GPU is fried? Is there any other potential causes?

The port might have went out or got damaged. Do you only have one port on the back of the card? If you have a DP port on it and your monitor, you can try buying a DP cable (assuming you don't have one), and try connecting it that way. A DP cable is going to be a lot cheaper than a new card, if it's just that the HDMI port is bad.

Bought a DVI cable, awaiting for it at the moment.

What are the chances that the ports will spoil first rather than the GPU though? Is there any tell tale signs of GPU spoiling/port spoiling beforehand?

Nah. Pretty much unrelated. Sometimes ports just go out. Happens. Sucks, but that's life.
