So, I´ve had my Lenovo Ideapad 320s for quite a while now and it has not been a smooth ride, to say the least, but after having sent in in several times it started to work. However, just a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the computer would become incredibly hot during normal usages such as with a couple of chrome and word tabs. I did some troubleshooting and tired things such as cleaning out debris and undervolting (as it was the physical location of the CPU that became hot) but to no success. After this, I took the back panel off to clean of the fans and intakes but found these were pretty much cleaned and could not have caused such a spike in temperatures.

Based on this, I am seriously considering if it might be that the CPU paste has dried out and therefore needs to be replacing. However, my knowledge with laptops is severely limited in terms of with desktops as this was the very first laptop I´ve ever opened. Therefore I wonder if you guys have any ideas on what to do in this situation and if it´s even worth repasting myself?

(Just a quick side note, I have built my own desktop and do have some ESD equipment (mat, "connectors" and wristband) to avoid chocks.)

If you want to do repaste:

-make sure the laptop is shut down completely and disconnect from adapter/charger

-disconnect battery cable

-unscrew heatsink screws, take it out and clean it

-clean the top of CPU&GPU die, apply new paste (Kryonaut, Mastergel Maker etc are good, avoid MX-4) - line method for CPU, dot method on CPU PCH, X method on GPU

-screw back the heatsink
