Hardware problem

I have just built my first pc, and after turning it on, everything runs... except the ports. This includes the ports on the case itself, and the ports that are on the motherboard. This means that when I connect the hdmi cable from my monitor to my pc nothing happens, the monitor just says "no signal - entering low power mode" and turns off. As far as I can tell, the problem is that the usb ports on the case dont have a cable connecting them to the PSU or the motherboard, and I have no clue what the problem with the motherboard ports is. On the part picker website I used it said the build would require approx. 396 watts. Plz don't go to hard on me, this is my first ever pc build :)

 

[SPECS]

Motherboard - MSI B450M pro-vdh max

GPU - MSI Ventus RTX 2070

Tower - Corsair Carbide Series Spec 05 Mid Tower

PSU - Corsair CX 450M (450 watts) 

Processor - AMD Ryzen 5 3600X

 

Edit: There is one very very light scratch on the motherboard next to where the graphics card is, because when I was inserting it, the metal jutting out slightly came over the motherboard. i don't believe that would be enough to ruin the ports though...

Your case SHOULD have cables around the back or inside that come from the front panel and should be long enough to attach to your mobo.  For the board USB not working, have you tried installing some drivers maybe?  It's unusual that the ports don't work at all.

 

When you say you connect your HDMI cable to your PC, did you connect it to the one on the motherboard or the one on your GPU?  Your CPU has no internal GPU so you won't get a signal from that.  Also is your GPU power plugged in?

 

Also a pic of the scratch could help.

I connected the HDMI cable to the ports on the motherboard, not the GPU.

As for cables on the case, there were cables for teh power button, reset button, and one "positive" and one "negative" cable. There was also a thicker cable which connected into a slot on my motherboard labelled "jusb3". The motherboard has areas for "jusb1" and "jusb2"

 

Sidenote: For some reason I can use the power button to turn the PC on, but not to turn it off.

The postive/negative cable should be the HDD activity light, not really all that important.

 

 

Your motherboard does have a USB3 header.  USB3 headers are universally very annoying to plug in lol.  According to your motherboard manual, JUSB3 is to the right of JUSB1 and JUSB2, circled in yellow below.

Yep that is where I have the cable from the case ports plugged in

Ok I switched the hdmi cable to the GPU, but the same thing still happens... The monitor turns on, doesnt get a signal, and turns off.

of course no signal since you plugged to cable to the motherboard. your mobo/cpu doesnt have intergrated graphics so it cant display anything. plug the hdmi to the gpu.

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

Sata power is in.

GPU is plugged in in the top right blue circle

PSU/Motherboard is plugged in at the right circle.

Not sure what you mean by cpu power being plugged in

the top left circle is for cpu. without it your pc wont work or display anything.

the top right is for the motherboard not for gpu. without it your motherboard wont get power and nothing will work.

Your system needs 3 power cables.  1 at the top, of the motherboard, the massive 24pin one to the right, and 1-2 for your GPU depending on what it needs.

no problem. And dont worry about the psu. It is decent quality unit and you wont consume under 350w in any situation.

 

but the gpu and case choices were bad. 

That case has poor airflow.

That gpu is not worht it. you could have gone with rx 5700XT with the same money and 5700XT is as good as rtx 2070 super.
