Hi guys, I am currently upgrading my home network. I have just bought a gigabit switch for my NAS, home server and home media machine, but am looking at a higher speed router for my wireless. I currently have a Netgear DGN2000 and am loving its reliability. Does anyone have any suggestions for either a netgear router (was thinking a DGND3700 v2) or another reliable brand? Price is up to $150.

Thanks!

EDIT: Oh and I would prefer a modem/router combo as its the easiest for setup, however if this has any drawbacks that I am unaware  of, let me know!

Have a look at the Cisco linksys range.

Thanks for the reply. I just looked at the linksys range and found some really nice routers, but they are in excess of $200. My limit is $150. From linksys all i could find for that were either single band 300mb/s or just router, no modem. Any specific suggestions?

You After an ADSL Router combo, Have a look at Draytek

I have never heard of Draytek before.. hmmm

The Cisco Linksys routers are awesome. They have great quality for great prices.

Yeah they seem like really good routers, but the ones in my price range are only single 2.4GHz 300mb/s... I'm looking at 2.4 + 5 GHz 600mb/s or higher with gigabit ports.

Any other suggestions? I might just go with the Netgear DGND3700 v2 or try and get the higher DGND4000 for an extra $30.

600mb/s on N thats not going to happen N is limited to 300Mbps  and is only as fast as your slowest device. If you want speed run some CAT5e.

Spend a little bit more and get an ASUS N66u, voted best router by a few different places. It's also one of the fastest.

That does seem like a great router, but it doesn't have a modem. Any suggestions for a cheap as modem?

Draytek Modem probably the best on the market and they actual do updates for the product unlike other companys.

Yes, vdsl.

Seems pretty unscamlike so far.

What is a cheap modem you would recommend then?

Reason I called it a scam is they got the money from the Gov to install it, but we have to pay £50 for the install that they call Fiber when its VDSL to the Cabinet then all fiber, but its still better than ADSL am i right ;)

Thanks for the help guys. I have just purchased an Asus n66u router, and I will use my current modem/router as just a modem. Thanks!
