Need help choosing a CPU!

My CPU recently died and I need a new one for my editing rig, reccomend any other CPUs you want to. A Motherboard pairing for a CPU would be helpful!

Technically a 3970x would be the "best". Budget? What are you pairing it with?

@TofuHaroto I can spend around ±2000 for CPU, MOBO, Cooling. This will be with a 2080Ti and 64GB RAM. This purchase will also be in preparation for new Graphics launches later this year.

Then you most likely won't be able to fit a 3970x. So that's out of the conversation. 

What are they all priced at where you live? 

I wouldn't consider the 10980XE unless you're doing AVX workloads. So it's either am4 or trx40. Or just waiting for zen 3 and seeing what that has to offer. If the build is planned later this year. Just wait for zen 3 and check what it has to offer.

@TofuHaroto the 3970x is about 1850 for me, which leaves it in the "±" range. I am in a  debate with myself on whether or not I should wait until the new processors release for either a discount or better CPU at the same price range.

We really don't know and we can't know. 

Usually TR releases down the line. But zen 3 should be released at around September or so.
