Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to help me, I recently purchased 3 Google Wifi Mesh devises, but I am struggling to get everything to work with my SKY broadband router. DHCP issues etc, I believe SKY wont allow me to switch off the DHCP, so I have conflicts, my set up currently is,  Sky Broadband with Sky Router.  Google 1 ( primary) connected to router hardwired Ethernet, the other 2 Google wifi's are hardwired via cable and TP link Switches which I use to connect my Office PC and the kids Laptops consoles etc. non of teh switches have been configured other than the default out of the box settings. Issues I'm getting are " No internet occasionally", Fault diagnosis reveals " no IP configuration assigned" I fix that but a day later teh issue returns. Although everything is hardwired I still get " Connected " unknown network"

Is there an efficient way to do this, or does the Sky router need replacing, but I'm led to believe that SKY use different configs and replacing with a 3rd party router is complicated.

Any advise would be gratefully appreciated

Marc

you have a double NAT issue, where you have two routers in series and they both confuse each other because both are routers.

what you need is a separate modem, to plug into your telephone line and then into your router. However, SKY are actively in a fight against using your own routers as consumers and it's against their EULA to not use their hub. Despite this, using your own modem is very easy.

EDIT: It's actually near impossible. You have to buy a very special type of modem which can change the authentication method to one that the google wifi can understand, or switch to another provider.

@Miffy1976 I would recommend, if you want to use these, that you move to another ISP. BT, Vodafone etc will sell you the exact same internet down the exact same line, but it will be compatible with your nest and a generic router for £15 off ebay. I personally recommend BT.

Otherwise, a modem which supports sky's strange authentication method will cost you £250+
