Is there a way to configure a fan controller with two separate systems?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm designing a case which will include two separate computers, one will be an Unraid media server and the other will be a gaming system. Since they will be together in one case, they would however share the same air intake and exhaust ports. Air would flow in from the left side of the case, past the first system, past the second system, then out the right side of the case. Naturally, I would want the case fans to be operational when either of these systems is active, not just while one of the systems is active. I could of course double-stack each of the fans and have half of them controlled by one system and the other half controlled by the other, but this would seem like a tad much. A fan controller I've been considering is the NZXT Sentry 3, to separately control intake fans, exhaust fans, and also some additional internal fans. Can this be done?

Little update. I've just purchased a Phanteks Revolt X PSU which is capable of powering two systems simultaneously. This removes the hassle of dealing with two individual PSUs and should also give great efficiency spread over the two systems. This might make things a bit simpler in regard to case fan control as well, at least I hope. I'm still looking for advice. The situation would be as follows.

  • Three separate groups of fans, one group for intake, one group for exhaust and one group for internal air flow regulation. (it's a large volume case)
  • Two motherboards, one for an Unraid server, one for a Windows gaming system.
  • One PSU supplying power to both systems.
  • The server would be running continuously, but the gaming system might not be on all the time, although there's a good chance it will be running continuously as well but idle most of the time.

I would like to be able to control the speed of each fan group individually.

I would like the fans to be able to ramp up or down in speed automatically based on CPU temperatures and/or case internal temperatures.

Preferably, I would like to be able to control the settings through software on both systems.

I wouldn't mind having a fan controller with an LCD display at the front of my case (just because I think it would look cool) but if this is not possible in combination with software control so be it.

Can this be done, and if so, how could this best be achieved?
