After upgrading to the latest Nvidia drivers (451.48) my GPU (GigaByte RTX2080) will not boost past it's base-clock of 1515 MHz, using GPU-Z to check the clock speed.

I tried:

  • Uninstalling MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner
  • Re-installing the drivers after wiping them with DDU (still no Afterburner at this point so no overclock)
  • Installing MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner
  • Uninstalling MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner then installing Aorus Engine to overclock

In all those scenario's the GPU core clock would not go past 1515MHz.

Note the following strange behavior seen in MSI Afterburner:

  • The power limit slider was grayed out
  • When applying an overclock or even only maxing the temp limit and applying that the screen would go black for a second and it would show as if it was applied but no difference to performance

When reverting back to 446.14 I have NONE of these issues:

  • Without overclock it boosts tot around 1950MHz when starting a GPU stresstest
  • MSI Afterburner has power limit available again
  • No more black screen for a second when applying an overclock in MSI Afterburner
  • Applying my stable overclock (CoreVoltage/PowerLimit/TempLimit maxed, +100 Core, +500 Memory) boosts the card to around 2050MHz when starting a GPU stresstest

Specs:

  • GigaByte Z390 Aorus Master
  • Intel 9700k
  • GSkill 3200 MHz 32GB (4x8GB)
  • Gigabyte RTX 2080 Gaming OC (with the latest F8 BIOS on it for over a year)
