tortir

i have an evga gtx 970 and I bought it in 2016, in furmark my temp reaches 84 celcius, im wondering if I should replace my thermal paste, and if I should, can I use my arctic mx-4 thermal paste? or do I need special thermal paste? also please tell me anything I should know.

i litreally just re thermal pasted my msi gtx 970 today as it was knocking on a few years now and temps were not great and were about the same as what you mentioned.

the results were good for me as idle temps went down and also temps in gaming decreased also

thermals seem ok not you could replace your paste but it won’t get you anything significant

It might be worth it on the GTX 970 - But Nvidia uses quite good thermal paste which does last long, but yeah MX4 for the GPU would be perfect.

I replaced the paste on my GTX1070 with conductonaut liquid metal and only saw ~5C change vs like 20C on my CPU. So next time I'd just go MX4.

No

when you are repasting your your gpu make sure only to apply it on the die and not to short contacts around it

maybe test it with a tiny amount a press down with see through plastic so you can see how much your putting on is actually spreading on the die

I find it actually better to spread it out on the GPU die vs the CPU blob or x method (when using paste and not just liquid metal) - To each their own, but I'm less stressed about the cooler mounting pressure being even.
