Long time Linus fan, recent forum member, and first time post. This build is, sorta kinda, my first build which stemmed from my frustration due to owning a Lenovo k330, which, if you have never seen one, is a regular PC that is mid to small in form factor and comes with an i7 2600. Being a lazy youngin with a moderate amount of knowledge concerning computers, I went against my gut instinct of building my own comp and bought this k330. Blissful times came and went, leaving me with the eventuality of wanting some GPUs that can out perform the "low settings" my current onboard graphics controller could handle, thus my foray into upgrading a barely upgradable comp began, followed by continuous frustrations one after another.

I did not log anything prior to what I am about to post, but the reader should note that the only original piece of hardware left from the k330 is the 1.5 TB HDD. Who knew that buying 2 GTX 460s could lead to getting a bigger case that would ultimately lead to me owning a comp that contain parts whose sum value is one that I do not wish to calculate, ever.

My plan for further upgrading this build includes watercooling the 2 gtx 670s, getting a 6 core cpu, painting my noctuas to match the machine color of the case and mobo, managing my wires better, getting another 16 Gb of dominator platinums (for the sake of filling up my ram slots, which is why I bought an X79 board in the first place), getting the light bar upgrades for the dominators and I think that's pretty much all that I want to do for the rest of this build... until my build can't keep up with the latest games around.

This build currently contains a:

Mobo: Sabertooth X79
CPU: i7 3820 @ 4.6 Ghz OC
RAM: 16gb Corsair Dominator Platinum
GPU: 2x Asus GTX 670 DCII @ 1224 MHz and 300 mem OC
Case: Phantom 820
PSU: Corsair HX850

Fans: 2x 140mm NZXT, 3x 200mm NZXT, 2x Noctua NH-d14, 2x Noctua NH-a14

Closed loop Kraken x60

This first pic depicts the unsightly bulk that came with managing a non-modular Silencer MkII, which, by the way, is not very silent.

The next shows my attempt at cable managing an HX850, which is a lot more silent and manageable.

My cool cards

This is the front with no panel. Those Noctua colors need to get changed. If you notice the power cables for the bottom 670 is going through the bottom grommet rather than the side, it is because I could not fit the cables through the closest one on its side and the cables provided by corsair are not long enough for me to insert it into the far right grommet. How it is now is not putting any pressure on the GPU.

Natural Habitat and yes, it is hooked up to my 46". The comp is in the left side of the piano, if you don't see it.

Edit: Almost Complete. The only things I need left are the keyboard and lighting for my Dominator Platinums

IMG_20130531_204704.jpg

The lighting scheme will consist of two colors, maybe three if the colors mix, consisting of red and blue. I'm making the main lighting that comes with the case and overall color red and everything else blue. Which means that I will be getting some blue hoses for my GPUs and will be using the blue light upgrade bars for the dominators. So it's supposed to look like a machine metal casing wrapped around a living machine. hence the name cyborg :)

Thanks for looking at my build. This is still an ongoing project, so I will be posting more as the cash flow increases and my disposable income is...well...disposable again.

Nice! That looks freaking incredible. I'm embarrassed of my PC now.

My next upgrade seems like it's going to be happening a bit too soon and unexpected. As I type this, my *original* HDD is clicking its life away as I back it up with all the hope of it not failing in the process. I was not even intending on upgrading my HDD but it seems like time/luck or the universe is not with me today, because this just happens to fall in line with a big car repair that I have to pay for - today. It is as they say, "when it rains, it pours." I will be buying 2-3 of these

tomorrow, creating a RAID 1 and maybe another ssd for a RAID 0 setup.

Nice build, I like it, especially considering you're not very experienced yet (if I

have understood your story corretly). :)

And tbh, I don't even think the Noctua fans look out of place in this. If it was my

own personal rig, I might change these few minor things (just me being picky ;)):

  • Zip tie those cable bundles to the graphics cards together, and also that additional

cable that's above the top GPU cables and goes to the M/B (maybe also reduce the

visible cable length on that additional cable).

  • Reduce the criss-crossing of cables down in the PSU area (I don't know if this

is possible, and it's already quite tidy, but criss-crossing wires is sort of a pet

    peeve of mine  ).

  • get a black SLI bridge (I think you can get them pretty cheap on eBay).
  • Zip tie the two fan wires going to the bottom fans together.
But yes, I like this :)

Thanks for the tips.

I'm not very experienced but I do take in and utilize information that I get pretty efficiently, which is how I actually ended up watching a bunch of Linus videos :)

I didn't think about bundling those 6 pin connectors up, that would definitely make it look cleaner, but the other connectors on top of that don't have much slack. As much as I want to tie those in, the kraken did not provide me with long enough cables

I was actually looking for the black SLI bridge around my area but could not find any, although I did stumble across a few black Xfire bridges.

The two fan wires were just hanging out there cause they are for the side panel fan, rest assured that they were well hidden when the panel was put back.

I will actually try your tips right now while changing out my HDD. Thanks again.
