random hard drive storage q

im curious do you just let a platter hard drive fill up with games and or what ever else you store in the hard dive till its full or do you compress the files you dont access frequently to save space

below you can see my current setup most of thes files in these drives are zipped to save space im just curious what others do do you save space by compressing files or just let the hard drive will up with uncompressed files then updrade the drive or ad another drive when one gets full?
