Budget (including currency): ~$500

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Streaming, League of Legends, Minecraft, Halo MCC

My current system:
MoBo: MSI B450 Tomahawk

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1400

GPU: EVGA GTX 1050ti

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 1x8 GB DDR4-2400
PSU: EVGA 450 B3 80+ Bronze 450W

Storage: SanDisk 120GB SSD, 2 WD Blue 1TB HDDs

I do not want to spend the money to upgrade everything at once, so I want to know what is most optimal to upgrade now (given the workloads listed above)..

I am thinking since I want to stream when I play it'd be best to upgrade CPU and RAM first. I am currently deciding between a Ryzen 5 3600x or Ryzen 7 3700x, and will probably just get Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200.

Making this post to make sure the new additions will be the most optimal way of going about things.

Am I correct? In my case is it best to just upgrade cpu and ram (gpu later)?

Thank you for your time!

Sounds right to me.  Whether 4/8 will even be a problem in the nearer  future is being questioned. I personally think it likely will be.  I’m just some shmoe  on the internet though.  The 1200 doesn’t have great single thread to start with though, and ryzen1 has a rep for being picky about ram.  My personal move would be 3700 over 3600. The extra two cores would mean more space to stream on and it fits with my belief that devs may make games that only work right with 7/14 after the new consoles come out.

As for avoiding a GPU upgrade ftm GPUs are kind of up in the air because of imminent new announcements so there’s a good argument for doing so.  They’ve been that way for a while though, and it may go as far as 2021 though amphere seems to be arriving very shortly. Could be a longer wait than you want depending on what you wait for.  It would mean you’d see very little fps gain from your cpu/ram upgrade.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

get a 16 gig 3600 kit, its not that much more and will improve your build massively especially since your running Ryzen

Sounds good except I would upgrade your power supply before a new graphics card and maybe try and fit a bigger ssd in there

It’s true.  PSU will be dictated by machine power draw and big graphics cards can draw a lot of power.

Even though thats the case it's like 10 more dollars for the 3600 kit so you might as well.
