Downgrade CPU

I just changed my cpu from i5-7600 to i3-6098p(using as temporary cpu) as my cpu has spoiled and the motherboard and cpu i wanted to buy are out of stock. Do i need to do anything when changing my cpu or can i just change it and my system would start up normally?

Which mobo do you have ? 

Z170/270 boards only support kaby lake and sky lake

The best cpu you can get for that mobo ( officially ) is the 7700k which is equivalent to a 3300x 

But alot more expensive

I had a blue screen of death just now after changing the cpu so im not sure if its the cpu that cause the bsod

It's a dead platform with it's best offering bring a 4c/8t cpu with mediocre ipc count 

Get a b450 pro4 and a 3300x and that will be alot better and sell the 7400 / 6098

If you want to stay with this platform get a used z270 board with a 7700k and that's as far as you can go

Get a b450 tomahawk heck even a b550 tomhawk mag would be better 

It has better power delivery while costing around the same 

A b450 pro 4 or a b550 pro 4 will be way more than enough
