Sata was kinda new back then. You would go into bios and be sure Sata is enabled. 

If it is enabled and the drive still isn't detected, try a different cable and or sata drive.

Some solid states don't play well with older hardware.

IDE is going to be the Primary boot source on this motherboard all else fails with sata.

Once you have an OS on an IDE drive, you can install the board's sata drivers and see if the sata ports respond after this.
