Motherboard: ASUS ROG b350

GPU:AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT OC @ 2100/ 1.139 V

CPU: Ryzen 1700 OC @ 3.8Mhz at 1.35V (stock cooling)

Ram: 16gb @ 2933 Mhz

I have been Overclocking my hardware in order to achieve a consistent 144FPS at 1080HD for Call of duty Warzone.  I achieved these settings but the CPU Temperature sits at around 69C-71C  Sometimes it spikes for 75C to 80C when dropping from a warzone game, but then goes back to stable temp. I could buy a better case with better cooling but I want to see if there are any overclocks/undervolts to try before I proceed with better cooling/case. Appreciate any help!!

I don’t see a particular problem with those temps.  If you had to OC undervolting too sounds like a recipie for instability unless you happen to have a golden chip.  I’d go for the gpu.  Sounds easier.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Yeah, only in the 90s does the processor start to thermal throttle and decay faster. Averaging in the 70s is fine.

can i push the GPU a little bit more? or is that not gonna improve anything as my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu???

There’s a certain dark value to when a processor can decay from heat.  Back in the 90’s the opinion was anything over 75c held for any length of time would cause processor decay.  This number has increased to 95c according to manufacturers but I don’t totally trust it since the materials are the same. Unless they’re not. Back in the 90’s the tech was changing from aluminum traces on silicon to SOI which intel referred to as coppermine.  Copper traces on an insulation bed to protect the copper from the silicon.  I don’t know what the insulation was made from.  It may be different now.  I haven’t heard that it is though.  I might have just missed it.   It’s hard to trust manufacturers on this one though because it is in their financial interest for CPUs to decay.  Me I’ve got a by now practically antique 4770k I run at 4 ghz because I can’t make it go any faster, and I’ve got an overkill cooler on it because when I bought everything I was expecting an overclock nearer 4.7ghz.  The result is I don’t ever get over 70c.  Generally the low 60’s.  It has not changed in performance or speed in that time.  Other owners of similar vintage chips though are reporting slowly increasing temps.  It’s an old chip though.  I’d like to know a lot more than I do about solid state electronics heat degradation.

It’s reeaaaally doubtful that your gpu is faster than your cpu.  I’ve got a lot less processor than you do and the reverse is true for me.

how can i go about improving performance just a bit in order to fulfill the 144fps stable. Im hovering around 120-130 which I can definitely feel is not as good as 144 as a competitive gamer.

I’d say worry about background apps but with an 8 core cpu that just doesn’t matter.   My memory is that ryzen is more sensitive to memory speed than it is to cpu overclock.  What is your memory running at?

another thing to look at is what is your processor utilization? If you’re not burying a given processor making it faster isn’t going to help.

memory is at 2933 mhz 16gb

and vram is tuned to 1860. Maybe i can move that up a bit?

That’s pretty dang fast for ryzen 1.  I doubt there’s much more to be had there.  I don’t know much about your gpu.
