Wifi woes

Go to solution Solved by Worstcaster,

Solved.  Replaced wifi card with this Intel 3168.

I got a new (used) laptop today and am having trouble the the wifi. It works when I first install Mint, but then wifi switches to “unavailable” when I reboot. I though I solved the problem, but switching to POP OS, but then POP stopped booting at all. I tried Manjaro, but that just black screened when I attempted to install it. I pressed ctrl, alt, F2 to try and go to tty mode for Nvidia drivers with Manjaro, but nothing happened. i did switch it to non-free drivers and tried again also without success.

Here is the network info from the system.

Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter
vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: rtw_pci v: N/A port: e000 bus ID: 03:00.0
IF: wlo1 state: up mac:
Device-2: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: r8169 v: kernel port: d000 bus ID: 04:00.0
IF: eno1 state: down mac:

Here is a link to the Mint forum topic where I tried other solutions.

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=321914&p=1828400#p1828400

The system does work with ethernet, but I will be using it at work and switch between stations, so that is not an option when I leave home.

Considering there is a AUR entry for that card, I am going to assume the linux kernel doesn't fully support that network card.

The AUR does however grab it from this git page

You could try your luck with that package, I am however not familiar enough with Ubuntu based Distros such as Mint and PopOS! to offer any advice on building or installing that.

Was your Manjaro install made with etcher?

Did PopOS! stop working after a update or just randomly?

Manjaro was made with etcher and POP seemed to have stopped randomly.  I even tried to reinstall POP and it hung up.  Mint reinstalled just fine, but is still having the wifi issue.  It's weird that it work until the first reboot.

Wifi Module has a DKMS for Arch that could be installed in say Manjaro.

The real concern is that the laptop has technically 2 GPU's, 1 being AMD Integrated and 1 NVIDIA Dedicated. I am really curious to know if they both show up under Windows and if one can be disabled in the BIOS. I am also curious if you connect a external monitor, if Manjaro will Display to it when it boots.

I didn't see the Nvidia card in BIOS, but the driver manager shows the drivers for it.  I will keep that in mind.  I also have a tread in level one techs and will probably try their solution first.  I'm going to pull the wifi card from my laptop which works with Mint and install it in the new laptop to see if that works.  They are both HPs, so I'm hoping for the best.
