do you want an open back or clsed back headphone and what kind of music do you listen to?

i listen to a little bit of everything from metal to soul the only thing i'd avoid is country to be honest with you (yeah don't judge me for that just not something i can get into)

i'd prefer closed back but im open to trying something new if it has better quality of course

I feel you I listen to most things except country with a few exceptions cause some old country and the likes of RA+scal By RMR just bump.

anyway for good closed backs at this price range good for your needs  I would say are the akg k371 though many audiophiles are not font of it has a good amount of bass fairly laid backa nd just nice relaxing sound . the cheaper better liked brother the akg k361 is also good it has better clarity more treble and less bass . the treble is nice and isn't harsh. other comtenders are the the m40x with a pad change and my one of my other favorite closed backs at this price range the msr76 great for content creation but is very unforgiving for music if it's badly produced like most metal . but for the price point nice detailed headphone.

not going to lie to you I've never really heard of those brands before i'll assume that they're all fairly high end and reputable i'd probably put it down to me not being a massive audiophile

lol they are brands that have been around way before you and me were ever born and are the same brands used to make most of the music you listen to lol. audiotechica, sennheiser, akg, fostex ,shure and many more are studio mainstays that have been around forever. all brands I didnt really know about until I started getting into audio as well

sennheiser is the only one on that list i was very aware of, but that being said i guess i have stuff to look into exciting this is why these forums are vital research tools for fools like myself :P
