GPU Usage Low

Go to solution Solved by kamiraasu,

What cpu and gpu do you have?

Edit:
Could be that there isnt demand for gpu or its cpu bottleneck. But last one is usually seen when gaming.

Find graph that shows gpu usage in afterburner. Reading on other forums that task manager isnt too accurate.

So the gpu seems to not be fully utilized. Looked around and cant seem to find a solid solution. Heres some information on the set up and what shows in task manager. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Hardware specs in the data.txt file at the bottom.

What CPU? Looks like FahCore_22.exe might be single threaded? 8.7% is ~1/12 of %100. You have a 12 thread CPU?

Maybe set priority on FahCore_22.exe a little higher than FahCore_a7.exe?

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

Would the bottleneck be due to a configuration issue then or is there something with this hardware combo?

I did add higher priority through the software, would it be better to do this through windows?

The 8700K has issues with this software?

No. The software probably only assigned 1 thread to the GPU workload since you are also doing CPU at the same time. That paticular  workload may require more CPU then others, idk about that. I would guess that you would get near 100% GPU usage if you did GPU only.

Oh wow so in msi afterburner it shows 98-100% usage so theres that much difference between task manager and the msi software? Thanks for the information I never thought that would be a thing especially since gaming and what not it hits full utilization in task manager that is interesting.

I thank other people wiser than me for this.
Learned about this myself right now too.

I tought that we could trust task manager.

I find it fun to spend time like this, maybe i should find
a job that revolves around this.

Sorry I just got on, like in the images I posted?
In contrast task manager is showing 38-40% gpu usage while msi is showing 98-100%.
It seems like odd behavior in my opinion, but I dont know enough about how the programs collect and process to data in order to truly understand the difference. Any info would be interesting for sure, its something that never crossed my mind to even think about.

Sorry just realized what you meant. I read "Performance tab and assumed it meant/was the exact same thing" They are showing the same numbers between the 2 tabs though.

@kamiraasu Oh snap I just discovered something I never knew!

If you click those little grey arrows next to "3D", "Copy", etc... you can change what type of info is being reported in the field.

@RubenRybnick, if you change one of the charts to "CUDA" or "Compute" you might be able to find the one that reports 100%.

I think Task manager sort of averages all of these different usages when it reports the overall usage amount. Pretty dumb.

Nice. Have we been a little lazy and/or blind for possibilities here.
This has never crossed my mind that it could be even a thing. 0o

Thats a really interesting find, it looks like the information comes from resource monitor I just never put the 2 together lol.
Great point out thats definitely news to me. So after changing the info to CUDA it shows 100%ish, interestingly though compute_0 and compute_1 show 0%. So that must mean the information being displayed in task manager as a summary is technically correct. Only 40% or so of the GPUs processing capabilities can actually be used for the processing task, it shows virtually nothing in Dedicated RAM, compute_0 and compute_1, etc being used so task manager is saying there is 60% of the GPU that isnt doing anything, even though given what its processing there really isnt much for that 60% to do. At first impressions calculating percentages of usage based on what portion of that card is running seems ambiguous to me, but theres probably a really clever or good way to do it. Would just have to look into that more.
