Hi, I currently own the lg34um68 75hz 2560x1080 ultrawide. Started to play a good few competitive fps shooters recently and was wondering whether an upgrade from this to something like this lg34gl750-b would be worth it, also price on this right now is pretty high for what it offers for some reason. I'd literally be upgrading just for the refresh rate and I'm not sure if its worth it. Never used a 144hz panel so was looking for some advice on this.

The AOC CU34G2X is another great Option. The jump from 60,75Hz to 144Hz is huge. If you never had your eyes on a 144Hz Screen you will be blown away. When playing shooters or any fast paced game it makes a huge difference. Altough it can be pricy you will not regret upgrading to high refresh monitors. The AOC model is a VA Monitor, keep that in mind. The LG one is IPS. I prefer VA but most people prefer IPS Panels.

Edit: Just noticed the LG is 1080p, while the AOC is 1440p. Keep in mind that 1440p Ultrawide needs some serious GPU power to run at 144Hz.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yeah i forgot to mention that I dont really buy high end graphics cards, I have an rx580 right now. I do plan on upgrading my gpu but dont think it will be anytime soon as I dont feel the need to run every game on ultra settings at crazy high fps. I feel that 1080 is fine for me especially good for competitive fps games where it would be nice to reach the 144hz.

I also do a bit of programming and was thinking about getting a vertical monitor as a secondary monitor. Would a 1080p main ultrawide 144hz and maybe a 1440p 60hz as a secondary vertical work in the same setup connected to one gpu?

Yes, it will work, as long as you stick to the number outputs of your GPU. Some GPUs only have 1 Displayport or HDMI for example.

Would it not look weird having a 1080p 144hz next to a 1440p 60hz monitor?

Of course there would be scaling issues between them, i assumed you sorted that out already. If you're buying 34" ultrawide get a 27" 16:9 1080p as your secondary. If you run your ultrawide at 1920x1080 it would be a 27" monitor, so they would be the same panel height.

Was talking a bit more about just the difference in resolution and overall image quality between the two monitors rather than scaling because I'm thinking of having it in a vertical setup so it might not look as weird with regards to the scale.

If you have a 1080p ultrawide your 1440p 16:9 will look much sharper. At this size you will actually notice the difference.

Do you think that this would be the best option or should I just go with a 1080p secondary as well but in 16:9? I want the UW for gaming and the 16:9 secondary mostly for programming.

1080p for secondary will be fine.

Thanks for the help, last question, will 60 be fine for the secondary or will i need matching refresh rates? I read that peoples main monitors seem to drop to the refresh rate of the secondary monitors.

For the longest time i've been using a 34" 1440p Ultrawide 120Hz as my main Monitor and a 24" 1080p 75Hz Monitor as a secondary. Never had any problems. I just use 125% scaling on the 1440p display and 100% scaling on the 1080p display so everything is the same size.
