PC Will Not Post!

Go to solution Solved by Nawrocki,

Finally figured out the issue, look like the CPU is dead. Tested all the components and the pc with that CPU will not boot. :(

Here's a little back story, a buddy of mine build this computer last week and everything was working fine. Passed the stress test thermals was fine and everything was normal until that one day everything just stopped.

The computer turned off and restarted where it shoed the MSI logo and he was able to get into bios. After that he restarted and then never again received a post from the computer. He then called me as I usually fix all my friends computers.

PC Specs:

Ryzen 3600x

MSI B450 Carbon AC Pro

16GB Ram 3600mhz (Gskill)

5700xt (Power Color)

550W corsair PSU

Troubleshooting steps taken:

1.      Took out the CMOS battery to reset the XMP settings

2.      Reseated all pc parts

3.      Tries individual ram sticks

4.      Tested different GPUs

5.      Changed PSU to 650W

6.      Disconnect the drives

7.      Tested different Monitors

8.      Tested different cables HDMI and DP

9.      That’s all I can remember

I’m honestly stuck and have no idea how to proceed, ill be testing the parts individually on my test bench and will take the MB out to see if there’s any possible sorts. Looks like the PC is booting from observing the post cycle just not displaying any video. The MB is showing no error codes as well. I never wanted to see the American megatrend screen so bad before. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know your thoughts.

You try checking anything about the video? It’s not impossible from what I can see that the computer itself is working fine, but if there’s something wrong with video you don’t see anything.  Got a spare known good gpu, monitor and cable to test with?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Hey, yes i did. I should of said that in my troubleshooting steps, completely forgot about that.

I wound up editing my post while you were replying so changes might matter.  From the sound of things they also might not though.

Can you elaborate on the last part?

The “might not” bit?  I don’t know what sort of monitor, cable, or gpu check in you did so I don’t know if my comment was even possibly useful or not
