Hi all,

Just completed my first build and have a Sabrent 512GB SDD with Windows 10 installed. I also have a Seagate Ironwolf 3TB NAS internal HDD - 3.5 inch Sata 6GB/S 5900 RPM 64MB cache. I cannot get it to initialize, format, or do anything. It is visible in device management and Disk Management. It is not visible in My PC. I have tried everything I have seen from researching this problem. I have not tried a different cable or motherboard connector because I assume that if it is visible, that probably isn't the problem. I am putting in a screenshot below of the Disk Management window and no matter what I try, I get the I/O device error.

I am using a MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. I am not an expert here and everything seems fine except for this issue. I also haven't used Windows in years, so am a bit rusty, having been using Linux and MAC for the past few years. Would a program like AOMEI Partition Assistant be helpful? I have also had trouble formatting a flash drive, but that also happened on an old Windows 7 computer I had access to and that program solved that problem on that computer. Thanks for any suggestions.

Can you see it with a Linux liveCD?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Trying another cable and SATA port is precisely what you want to do... and if those don't work it looks like the drive is dead.

I tried a new cable on the same port and then another port. Same results. I wonder if I messed up the drive when installing it, I was using anti-static procedures. Thanks again for your suggestion. Going to try the Linux boot idea and then call it a day and replace the drive.

Just tried this with Lbuntu on a flash drive. The drive was listed, but it would not mount. I hope I can return it and I will be ordering another one. Thanks again
