Hello everyone, i am getting all too fed up with windows and want to try running linux as a daily driver once again... i have done so for a while a few times in the past, but always have one problem or another. the one i had last time and still havn't found a solution for is this:

i have 4 monitors, a triple wide display, and the 4th one on top... ya know, look up game info while i'm playing.  in linux i have found how to run each monitor individually as 4 screens (elimination the ability to play triple wide) and i have found how to run all screens as a single screen (there for having a dead zone with no monitor in the upper left or upper right areas) but neither of these solutions work for me.  What i want to do is have 2 seperate unlinked screens... 1 with 3 monitors, and 1 with a single monitor.

anybody know how to do this i'd happily buy you a beer!

my flavor of choice is Arch linux, or a variant there of (i like Manjaro quite a bit) but if someone knows a solution that only works in a different distro, or maybe with only a certain display manager, or a certain desktop - whatever solution someone can come up with i'm happy to try just about anything.

thank you much.   i will include a picture of my rig gaming so you have a visual of what i'm trying to do, but this picture will be taken within windows.

You should be able to combine the bottom 3 screens in a single virtual display using xrandr https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Multihead#Combine_screens_into_virtual_display

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Hi,

What you want should be possible, however, I've never done anything more complicated than a dual-screen setup in Linux. The solution is most probably distribution agnostic, however, depending on your desktop environment, it might or might not be possible trough GUI (KDE Plasma is usually best in this kind of things). If you are lucky, it could be possible in there.

If your DE settings are not helpfull, see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Multihead (especially the explanations of Monitor / Screen / Display; note the latter two are X.Org jargon in this context - and "combine screens into virtual display").

Also, as  yor question is a bit more advanced, it is best answered in a forum dedicated to your Linux distribution (i.e. Manjaro forums). This place is best for quite basic Linux questions IMO (coming from someone who has been lurking here for .... two years?). Distribution forums have subsections dedicated to many subjects, more users and posts, and especially more advanced users!

Yea I've been neck deep in that exact wiki page for a few hours so far.  Kde plasma is exactly the DE I'm using... So far no luck.  I did spot the command to make a multimonitor screen... But it seemed to actually do nothing. Ill be back at it later on this evening.
