Hi there!

I really would like to start programming, unfortunately my school doesn't teach it. -_-

Does any know of a way I could learn the basics or even teach me themselves. I'm only 15 so i don't have much money. What I need is a cheap but challenging project to get me started :)

thanks for your time :D

Ross

Which language? A good place to start would be on YouTube, this guy has great tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/user/thenewboston

Most local libraries also have pretty books that will help you.

thanks for the really fast reply! I love this forum!

I'm thinking PIC or python right now, I'll definitely have a look at that YouTube channel in more detail :)

Python is fun :D and yeah just youtube it if you know nothing. Maybe check out a book thats not like a long boring one but one by the author O'Reilly.

The books they release are kinda like reference books to look something up real quick like a rule or how to do something but I feel like something kinda more vague and less boiler plate would help anyone get a general idea of how things are done!

Hope that helps!

i'd look at C/C++ too, alot of languages are derived from it and it's quite important.

I would suggest the usual beginning resource for learning Python, which is here:

So naturally, I would suggest Python if you're looking at getting started. As for a project, Python can do a lot of things. It depends what you're into but maybe you can try and start simple with the Fibonacci numbers and go from there.

When I started programming I tried to solve some common task by programming them, for example, moving my default library folders every time i reinstall windows, or maybe a database of movies or games. Dont think it too much, just simple tasks to make you life easier, you will learn the basics, and also feel that you made something that is actually usefull for you.
