I need help, I've got a 10 year old pc that won't turn off. I use the power off in the windows start screen and it will turn off and restart. I've tried turning it off using the external power button, after closing all programs, and seeing if for some strange reason the restart and power off buttons were switched around (nope). Even if I remove the power cable after it turns off before restarting, but when I plug it back in it still turns itself back on. Any thoughts?

check your power and sleep settings, advanced, "choose what the power buttons do", and make sure the settings are correct. if that isn't the issue, i would then unplug the cables for the power and reset buttons from the motherboard, carefully use a screwdriver, or something similar, to short the 2 power pins together to turn on. after its on, check to see if it turns off correctly now. if it does, your power button is bad. if it still restarts. it's something else. if you aren't confident in your abilities to do that, i would recommend finding someone who does, as this could damage the motherboard if done wrong. the first suggestion is almost certainly not the issue, just covering bases.
