Hello everyone!

The specs of my PC are:

  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B450-E Gaming
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G
  • GPU: Integrated Vega 8
  • RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black DDR4 2x8Gb HX430C15FB3K2/16
  • PSU: Chieftec Proton BDF-750C 750W
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
  • BIOS ver: the latest

I've been experiencing some weird behavior from my PC for the last few days. It could be rebooted randomly for no reason, but I didn't pay much attention to it.
Today it just didn't boot at all. I looked at Q-LED indicator on my motherboard and WHITE (VGA) was lit. I tried to install Gigabyte GeForce GT710 and reset BIOS (to reset integrated graphics settings), but it didn't work - Q-LED lights just started changing in sequence.
I managed to boot a few times after disconnecting keyboard/mouse, monitor and GT710 though, but when I plugged the monitor back in it didn't boot, and later I couldn't even boot with monitor unplugged. I always was getting the same result - YELLOW (DRAM) is lit for a few seconds, RED (CPU) is lit for a few seconds, WHITE (VGA) is lit for a fraction of a second, and then everything loops and starts over (video is attached). I looked up into the documentation for my motherboard and there was nothing related to the situation like that. Only one indicator should be lit until the problem is fixed, but mine is just looping through them.
I tried to unplug RAM sticks one by one and tried different slots, tried another PSU from the old PC, but the issue remained.
Worth mentioning that I bought such CPU because of integrated graphics and planned to upgrade to more powerful CPU and GPU later. I ran Vega 8 at higher voltage (1.3v) and frequency (1500Mhz) - that might be an issue, but I do not have a spare CPU to check it. Also the CPU was boosting to 4.0-4.1 automatically (I didn't overclock it), and the voltage seemed to be high (over 1.45-1.5v). Other than that nothing unusual. At least I hope that the motherboard is alive. The PC has been working fine for the last 2.5 months.

Thank you all in advance!

Sounds like something is fried.

Do you have an integrated speaker on the mobo?

If so, there are a few tests we can run

No integrated speaker unfortunately. But for some reason it just booted. I left it for 5 minutes, and when I got back Windows recovery screen showed up, so it seems crashed and booted up again. I am confused right now and I have no idea on what is wrong. Maybe SSD is dying or it is Windows issue. But earlier today I couldn't even POST. Are there any logs which could be useful?

If it's a failing power supply or motherboard, not really.

If it's a hard drive, then yes

Look in Event Viewer (Control Panel, Admin Tools) Windows Logs, System, and look for Red Xs. Especially if they relate to "drive"

Post here if you find any.

After I login it crashes in a few seconds. Tried to boot linux mint and it crashed in a few minutes as well. Now I am back to blinking Q-LED on my motherboard.

Ok. Mobo, CPU, or bad RAM.

Either way if *nix crashes, it's hardware

EDIT:

If you can get it to POST, try Memtest86

I cannot POST again. And if it boots, it doesn't last long. At least I defaulted BIOS settings when it booted.
It is a hardware issue for sure, just have to find out the failing component.

I'd venture mobo, just in my experience.

The trouble is, without known good spares to test with, pinpointing it is going to be a trick.

What do you have, or have access to, that is known, good, hardware that is compatible?

I've got no hardware to test with. I can send CPU and Mobo to the stores I bought them from, I've still got the warranty. If everything is good they will send it back, if not, replace or repair, I guess. Maybe better to start with CPU and RAM. Just that lockdown, so could take ages while I find the failing component.

Yeah I hear you. I'd start with the stuff under warranty. Let them know what's occurring, see what they say,

Yeah sorry we couldn't pin point which part, but let us know what happens with the warranty

Wrote to Asus support describing the issue. They suggested to return the motherboard to the retailer I bought it from for diagnosis. Summing up, for me it seems that the motherboard is dead. Unfortunately.
