Windows 8 - give access to external HDD

While I was gone in China my Dad decided to copy some movies from my external Harddrive to his PC. In order to do so, he set his Account to the only one being able to access the external HDD.

Now that I need to use the HDD, I can not access it anymore. I do know how to change it for a single file (properties - security - advanced - etc.) BUT the HDD has over 2000files on it and I really don't want to do this for every single file/folder.

So, is there a way to give me access permission (read and write) for ALL folders at once under Windows 8.1?

You can just do the same on volume level?

It wouldn't let me. Every time I did so, it only granted me access to the lower folder. But that seemed to be an error in Windows 8. Because I started my PC new and then the same thing worked. Before I always had the box checked "apply setting to all folders below" but when I started my PC new it said I didn't check that.

Whatever.

In the end it works now so everything is fine.

Are you doing this as an administrator?
