Hi everyone,

So it started about 15/18 days ago when i turned my pc off and disconnected the UPS from the mains. The next day my PC won't start. But the headphones would light up only. (PC is only about 2 and a half yrs old)

So after a lot of pressing after random intervals it booted. The pc would only stay fine if it wasn't disconnected from mains. I ordered a CMOS battery by instinct as when it did boot it showed a wrong time. My retailer was closed due to lock down. Their online service said it probably was the PSU.

But after replacing my CMOS battery the PC started booting normally even after disconnecting it from mains after powering down. Now after about 12 days from using the new battery. The problem has started again. Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong? The pc wont boot but my headphones light up.

Any sort of help would be appreciated in this lockdown! 😄

it could mean another dead cr2032. you can buy it at hardware store or supermarket's tools section. buy a couple of them, with packaging intact.

a trick: you can remove the cr2032 cell from a running pc, providing you dont power it off completely (aka switch off/ unplug power cable), it will retain power. as the motherboard draws power from either the cell or +5vsb to keep the clock and sram running.

with that in mind, you also harvest another cell from a know good computer, just to be careful not shorting anything during the process.

why everybody post the spec of their rig here? i dont! cuz its made of mashed potatoes!

Thanks for replying!

After trying my old patience game the pc booted again this time i didn't unplug it completely and so it boots regularly now. I guess it's definitely the CMOS again :( . Any clue why my CMOS battery seems to die so quick? Isn't it supposed to work for very long periods.
