There was an unexpected error loading this item

These are the errors I get when I try to watch something on my plex. Both Desktop (Mac and windows), TV (Roku), and Phone (Android) are not working. My plex is running on unraid. This mainly started to happen when I added a cache drive and parity drive and a new drive. The new drive was erroring a lot so I  replaced it with an identical drive just different. So I had to rebuild and at that same time I was setting up my cache. I set Appdata to "Prefer" and also set my Videos folder to "Prefer" by accident. I undid the videos and moved them off cache before I added Appdata to cache. Once I did that a lot of my dockers stopped working (I have 2). They would be running but when I went in MineOS no information once I logged in. Similar to plex, I logged in on plex and I could find the shows and movies I put there but couldn't access them beyond seeing them. I have moved all of plexs data off the cache and that didn't fix it. At this same time I also added Nvidia added the driver and added the Extra Paramets "--runtime=nvidia".

I work a lot and don't have too much time to error check everything till the weekend. So if anyone has any ideas of what I can try that'd be awesome!

Does it play if you disable Hardware transcoding in Plex? (Untick these)

If it still fails, you'll need to get the troubleshooting logs.

Settings > Server > General

  • "Enable Plex Media Server debug logging" should be ticked
  • "Enable Plex Media Server verbose logging" should not be ticked

Try to play a video file

After error wait at least 30 seconds

Settings > Server > Troubleshooting

  • "Download Logs"

On your UnRAID box, can you run this cmd and check its on UTF-8 encoding?

root@TOWER:~# locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8

For now can you also disable HW transcoding.

Also under Settings > Server > Transcoding, have you specified a transcoding path in there?

image.png.53b4678bbfef3b8b4bc5f0a4ce241323.png

Make sure the path it's trying to transcode to exists, and is accessible by the docker plex user.

I think you've specified in your Docker container a path called /transcode  (similar to what I have in my screenshot above)...so wherever Docker is mapping that from.

Playback Error
An error occurred loading items to play.

I disabled it and it's still not working. Even when I try to go open photos it says the error above. So I'm kind of stuck to what it is right now. Any ideas?

If you open the shell for the Plex Docker, can you navigate to those shares and list the contents?

i.e in the Docker shell, can you do an 'ls -la' for the directories such as /tv and /transcode

ls -la /tv
ls -la /transcode

If those commands work, can you try this

echo "This is a test" >> /transcode/test.txt

You should then have a file in \\tower\Videos\Transcode  called test.txt

I was able to get it to output the file there. However, my shell kept disabling itself. I'd open it get option to type a command but within 2 seconds connection would close by itself.

Critical: libusb_init failed

[cont-finish.d] executing container finish scripts...
[cont-finish.d] done.
[s6-finish] waiting for services.
[s6-finish] sending all processes the TERM signal.
[s6-finish] sending all processes the KILL signal and exiting.

The Unraid docker is also reporting these. So I'm really not sure what it is.

So being able to create that output file means its able to write to your transcode path. But possibly from the other errors you're seeing you may have some sort of bug left in your Plex docker container. At this point im a bit lost as to what the issue is.....I can only suggest rebuilding your Plex container.  Keep in mind to do that you'll need to delete the AppData path completely for your Plex docker to remove all the old config, and rebuild your libraries. You could possibly create a backup of your plex database so you could reimport that and try as well, but im not sure where your issue lies...

Also: keep in mind that mapping your Plex docker paths to /mnt/user/Videos wont include anything in your cache if you still have your cache....it should be mapped to /mnt/user0/Videos to include files in your cache as well.
