Hello there,

Once in a while my computer wont boot.
It will power on as suspected, and it will cycle through the different hardware, and get stuck on white (VGA).

I have searched the internet, and haven't found an answer to my specific problem.

Once i pull out all the cables (Including the power cable), let it rest for a short while, and replug everything, and boot with only keyboard and one screen connected - the computer boots just fine (with a warning screen for BIOS ofc - where it wants me to check my bios settings)

Specs (Home build):
Asus ROG STRIX Z370-G GAMING
Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580

Intel Core i7 8700K

2 x 16 GB DDR4 2666 MHz Corsair

It started doing this after i installed the new motherboard and GPU (though with looong periods of time without doing so - could be up to 3 months and sometimes just days).
I am uncertain if this is something i should be concerned about, and how to fix this issue - wether it's a GPU problem og a MOBO problem?

Try clearing the cmos and see if that helps

And one more thing is how old is the PSU and what model is it ?

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Audio: Logitech G432, Moondrop Starfield, Mic: Razer Siren Mini (White).

Phone: Pixel 3a (Purple-ish).

PSU is Corsair RMx Series RM850x - and it's rather newly bought. I bought it because my computer was noisy, so i upgraded the PSU and the Case later on (And that this hopefully would fix this random issue).

How would resetting the CMOS help? It only happens rarely - like once every few months, though some times it will happen shortly after again (very rarely)

what do you mean by it will cycle through the different hardware and get stuck on "white (VGA)" will a white led with VGA label light up or does your screen get white?

yeah sorry - Asus ROG STRIX Z370-G GAMING checks each component section doing startup represented by colored LEDS on the MOBO itself - the White Led represents VGA.

well in that case it means that something is wrong with your GPU, reset bios to default (incase any PCIe setting or other such setting has been triggered resulting in that issue) then remove the GPU check the cables (if possible connect the cables or use spare cables and connect them to an other input of your PSU if its a modular one) clean the contacts by gently massaging them with a q-tip or non fussy tissue of some sort soaked in alcohol and also clean the PCIe slot (with an airduster or your vacuum) reseat it and make sure it "clicked" and push both corners (gently like inserting a casette to a console) to ensure its evenly in the slot hold it streight (so that it doesnt hang due to gravity ) without pushing it upwards it just needs to be perpendicular to the motherboard and then screw it in.

if it doesnt work again try to check the GPU in a friends computer to see if you have similar issues

EDIT: before checking the GPU on an other system you could try to plug it in your second PCI x16 slot to see if the main one is busted for some reason

The thing is, as i wrote, it only happens very rarely. Which is why i don't think it's a GPU problem. It happened 2 days ago, and before that was 2 or maybe 3 months ago. This makes me think it might be something with the motherboard - i definitely don't think it's a problem with the BIOS settings since it happens that rarely. I have no artifact issues on the screen ever, and when doing heavy 3D Work in Blender the GPU works as expected. If it was a power problem the computer would simply turn off as the GPU went under heavy load.

The thing is that indicators exist for a reason and troubleshooting must start from somewhere if you dont want to do those steps then the next thing you could do is swap the PSU then after that swap the motherboard. So the steps above are more convenient and to the point than the other ways to trouble shoot.

I know - i'm merely wondering. I changed the PSU not too long ago, because i thought that could be causing the issue. I also changed the computer case because i wanted a better case (thus taking everything out, dedusting the motherboard, aswell as carefully putting everything back in).

Doesn't that leave us with:
Clean the contacts, reset BIOS, and switch PCI slot? And with Contacts you mean the contact point on the GPU right?

Edit: A note too - whenever the computer has this problem, taking out all cables except keyboard and one screen (this includes taking out power chord, and leaving it without power for about 10 sec.), fixes the problem? This leads me to believe the problem lies within the MOBO and not the GPU
