Budget (including currency): $2800

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: any variation of games on steam to Microsoft PC game pass

Other details: So my current PC is about 7 years old. Inside is an Asus Z97, GTX 960, intel i7 4700K, 16GB corsair vengeance, rosewill photon 1050 80Plus gold, and 1TB HDD by Seagate.

the new build is:

Lian Li 011D XL case

Aorus Z390 Master

Aorus 2080 Super

intel i9 9900K

Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB DDR4 3200

power supply from original build is being used

HDD is coming over as well.

I am aware that I need to wipe the HDD when moving from my current PC to my new CPU and MOBO so windows 10 doesn’t blue screen, but I have no clue how to go about doing this. My main question is, how to I move my hard drive and windows 10 from my current build to the new GPU/CPU/MOBO/RAM without corrupting it and needing to buy it again? I’m definitely new to the tech industry and custom PC building, and moving to a new PC is foreign territory for me. Thanks!

Have you bought any of the new parts yet ? As no way I would go with a 9900K if going Intel, as the 10th gen and Z490 is just around the corner. Having said that you could get far better value with a Ryzen cpu.

I only have the case and the ram since the ram was on mega sale on amazon, and the case was a random spontaneous buy to get me into motion on actually starting my upgrade.

as for the CPU and MOBO, I was actually going to get the Aorus z390 master this week when I get paid. I don’t see a need to have the super top of the like MOBO for my needs, but I’d like to inquire more info on the Ryzen situation. What do you prefer for the similar price range of the 9900k?

You could get a Ryzen R9 3900X and X570 board with your budget. Other option would be to wait for the i9 10900K and Z490.

So something like this for Ryzen:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor  ($431.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($189.99 @ Best Buy)
Total: $621.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Or you could just buy the RTX 2080 Super and put it into your current system for the short term. Then in a couple of months see what the situation is with Intel/Ryzen as the AMD B550 boards will be out by then and prices and stock levels might be better, and of course Z490 and the i9 10900K might be available as well.

As for your other question regarding Windows the video below goes over that exact question.

And if you want to locate your product key:

Thank you for all of this info, I’ll be taking into consideration all of the above. As for now, I’ll be saving all of this info to my phone for later references. I think I might just get the 2080 super in the near future after saving up a bit, and riding out until the new boards and CPUs are out and easily available to purchase. Thank you again!
