Question on Ryzen Overclock

Hi 

 

I have Ryzen 5 2600 and my particular CPU hits an all core boost of 3.68 Ghz. Not a silicone lottery winner for sure!

 

But, I was thinking, what if I disable two cores, and then Overclock it to 4.2 Ghz. Will that be possible? Cuz I play this old game that mostly use two or three cores at max...

 

I just want to confirm if this kinda of Overclock is possible or not?

Cant overclock beyond 3.68 on all 6 cores?

I could but I don't need Overclock on all six cores... Just want to know if I can cheese out on just four cores /8 threads :)))

you cant as cores run at the same frequency, but Ryzen's idle power draw even at full clock speed and voltage is only slightly higher than at low clock speed and voltage so I dont see the point of what you're trying to do.

I have no experience in overclocking cuz this is my first Desktop cpu... 

 

All I need to know is, can I just use 4 cores and clock them at highest speed possible like 4.2 or 4.5 Ghz? Yes/No? :))

You can disable some cores to get whatever number you wanted, it's just pointless. You cannot make 4 cores run faster than the remaining 2.
