my pc

windows 10 pro 64

asrock x570 taichi

amd ryzen 7 3700x

msi radeon rx 5700

ballistix sport lt 32gb ddr4 3200(part number: bls2k16g4d32aese)

samsung evo plus m.2 1tb nvme

hp ex950 2tb nvme

hold overs from old 2012 build

silverstone tjo4-e case

silverstone st85f-p powersupply 850w silver

2 samsung 1tb ssd (do not know model)

when I rebuilt my pc with new parts i kept the case, powersupply and 2 of the ssd.

bios, is the first one for the board (I am afraid it would shut down while updating). not overclocked. problems will happen with any programs running (autocad, boarderlands, vegas pro, adobe illustrator, on1photo raw). It also happens when looking for settings in the bios. Also it has turned off with absolutely nothing open, besides open hardware monitor and task manager.

my pc has been running great since i built it in aug 2019. I flipped my psu around(fan to bottom of case), I read that was the better way to have it. 2 weeks ago my computer started to have random shutdowns. I figured with the old build it was rock solid, so i flipped the psu back over again. now that it has gotten hotter it has gotten way worse. I upgraded the cpu cooler to the nhd15, stock in my case sucked. I unplugged both the ssd's and the hp nvme drive. moved the gfx card down one full slot so that it doesnt cover the south bridge chip fan (probably only had 2mm clearance in the first slot). it didnt do much but my sb is about 5deg cooler.

Now that it has gotten hotter in california, i could probably run the computer 5-10min during day time, cpu was at 55deg and sb was 60deg. right now at 1am its been on 20min, and is doing fine, temps are nice and low cpu is at 39deg and sp is at 55deg.

Can it be the power supply since its old? I do not have a spare supply to test.

Thanks for looking.

This is my 3rd pc built. First one built when 16 (I am 32) and is still going. 2nd was going strong 8-9 years, but needed to be upgraded (got to slow). This is the only build that has given me any problems.

Very much so, it's not old, it's ancient. And it wasn't a very good PSU to start with. Scratch that, it was mediocre. Put this thing to rest.
