Hi there, I currently own an asus rog strix 2070 super paired with a 2600x. Im looking to upgrade my cpu, because its limiting my gpu in a lot of games (playing at 1080p 165hz). I was personally thinking about getting a r5 3600 with a dark rock 4 cooler. Would this be a good cpu to pair to my gpu or do you guys have any other suggestions?

ultimately, while a 3600 will be better, it's not going to get you to 165fps in many games. A highly clocked Intel will, but it's a poor value proposition.

I would wait until 4th generation Ryzen, which is in a few months, and will likely finally beat Intel in this niche.

This is the exact setup I'm running, no complaints. I also have to agree with @Mister Woof, the 4000 series desktop processors are right around the corner (hopefully).

I tossed around the idea of upgrading my 1600 to a 3600.....and quickly came to my senses. in a vacuum it's fine, but in the environment, it doesn't make sense right now.
