Adding new hard drive

Go to solution Solved by Kon-Tiki,

Depends on your budget and if you want to spend extra on a SSD to home your currently most played games. That said the IronWolf series is a good choice in terms of quality. However you could save yourself around 40 $ (depending on where you live your mileage may vary) by going for an equally sized desktop drive like the Toshiba X300 Desktop (though it comes with 128 MB cache instead of 256 MB on the IronWolf). While cache is good to have I'd personally don't think that in your use in a desktop system the difference between 128 MB and 256 MB would impact the performance in every day use.

Ultimately it comes down to whether you want to spend the extra 40 $ or so. If I was in your situation I'd go for the cheaper option.

Hope that helps :)

Thinking of adding another hard drive to my pc my pc has 2tb in it now and games are getting a lot bigger so I’m thinking of buying a new drive. Should I get another ssd or should I get a 7200rpm hard drive. Also what hard drives do h recommend? I found this one on amazon Seagate IronWolf 6TB NAS Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache for RAID Network Attached Storage – Frustration Free Packaging (ST6000VN0033) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H1W6214/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_O3TMEb8YXPKZZ

NAS drives are generally designed for 24/7 operation and for use in multi drive installations where vibrations are a force to be reckoned with. For desktop use this is generally not necessary so you could save some money by going for a desktop optimised drive. With that said, you certainly won't do anything wrong with a NAS drive in terms of performance.

If you want to combine the benefits of a SSD with the storage of a HDD you could also go for a slightly smaller HDD and buy a small SSD (256 GB, with DRAM for example) to copy the games on you play at the moment and move them back to the HDD when you're finished.
