So i currently have a AC5300 and 2x AC68U hard wired together in AI-Mesh. It works great but now i wish to try add a good connection to my garage but plan to do it wireless (don't wish to dig my lawn up and my dog will most likely dig it right back up and chew it). Now my question is i know the AC5300 has 2 x 5.0ghz vs the AC68U 1 x 5.0ghz so if i was to buy more AC5300 would it help with speeds or be a waste of money ?

As I understand it, the extra 5GHz radio on these ASUS mesh devices is used to communicate between other mesh devices without interrupting with the client-to-mesh-point wireless bands (2.4GHz and another 5GHz). This is a better implementation of wireless extenders.

So the short answer is, yes. You should be able to do what you're proposing as long as you get another ASUS AI-Mesh-compatible device.
