in games that have high gpu usage, i get frame drops that freeze the game for a second.

when these drops happen my gpu usage drops by half and the gpu clock speed does the same.

recently i replaced my 1500x with the 3600, 1060 3G with a 5600XT, and replaced my 2666 mhz 16GB kit with a G skill 3000 mhz 16 GB set.

before the replacement most games suffered from very low fps, but after replacing the parts i started getting these frame drops.

another issue that ive been getting before replacing the parts, but is still present, is input lag. After playing certain games (doesnt happen on every game) like modern warfare ill get input lag that carries over to other games.
this is fixed by restarting the pc, but i just dont know whats causing it.

I'd go with @xAcid9 recommendation an do a clean install. Your system is likely having still parts of Nvidia stuff installed that is interfering with the Radeon drivers. A clean install should solve that. Also make sure your ram is actually running at it's rated speed. If not enable XMP.

when i changed the parts i did a fresh windows install, and the XMP profile is enabled.

Which game btw? Kinda weird that input latency build-up the longer you use the pc.

1. Can you download 3DMark and run the free Firestrike benchmark?

2. Can you open Windows Event Viewer, right click on Administrative Events and Save it as txt and evtx. Zip it and upload here or any other file sharing site.

Modern warfare, csgo, post scriptum, squad all have these frame drops with stutter, but rainbow six siege or war thunder dont lag at all.

and the input lag happens in csgo and modern warfare mostly.

Hmm, don't have much except bunch of applications error on 3rd, 8th, 10th and display driver reset on 5th.

1. Did you check if you accidentally enable Radeon Settings feature that might causing problem? Radeon Chill, Enhanced Vsync, Relive, etc.

2. What anti-virus you currently using?

3. Can you show your startup softwares? including non-Microsoft services and those in Task Scheduler.

4. Did you install Chipset driver from AMD website or mainboard website?

5. What about thermal? Does thing get better if you open your case side panel?

Your Firestrike look normal as well.

How bad is the frame drops? Few frame drops is kinda normal imo, unless it drop when nothing is happening.

  • 4 weeks later...

I had the same exact ram as you and it gave me hell on earth. the xmp profile was unstable and whenever it ran above 2133mhz it gave me stutter in all games.also if you look at g skill aegis on amazon it is designed for intel CPUs not Ryzen CPUs. I reccomend setting bios to defaults and making sure ram is at 2133mhz and if it stops you know it’s your ram if it persists then idk. I had to rma the g skill aegis ram for Corsair vengeance 3466mhz cL16 ram with Samsung b die on mobos qvl and nothing but smooth sailing. Let me know if this helped. But make sure your ram is on the qvl if not then that is likely your problem
