Hi, I have  i7 6700 (non K), I am not sure if i need to really upgrade.

I don't really want to upgrade but more want to know if i should start considering it.

My rig consists of:

1060 6GB

16Gb of RAM

I do gaming and i have the HTC VIVE which i am getting good frames in, not amazing but sticking close to the 90fps, tho i do need to lower graphics settings quite a bit in more recent games, could it be because of the CPU?

Track your system usage with HWinfo while you game. You'll be able to see how hard each component is working. If the GPU is sitting at 100%, then that's what is limiting, if the CPU is sitting at 100%, then that's what is limiting.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Open it in sensors only, and let it run in the background. Open it back up from the task view, and check averages.

Yes an upgrade would help but if you were going to do it:

You need a new graphics card, a new CPU, and a new motherboard. The good news is that sounds way more expensive that it actually will be!

A 6gb GTX 1060 goes for $100-120, a i7 6700 goes for $180-200, and you can even sell your motherboard as well but you didn't mention what motherboard you have so I can't tell you a value on that but let's conservatively say $50. Should get at least $300 pretty easy after shipping/fees/etc

Now, after doing that you can make some pretty nice upgrades. Where you go with that is up to you.

What VR games and non VR games do you play? VR is weird because a lot of those games rely heavily on single thread speed.

I have a  msi z170 A-PRO as my mobo

and my gpu is the asus one with 2 fans (dont know exact model),

and if i were to upgrade, which components would you suggest, again, not trying to break the bank but things that will last me some good time with high settings.

Flat pannel games vary but they are the demanding new games, to give a demanding example: Division 2.

VR games are: Blade and Sorcery, HL:Alyx etc...
