so i have an rx 580 and it performs well, however i noticed something a little strange and i wanted so help understanding whats happening.

while gaming the amd radeon adrenaline software reports spiking in GPU utilization up to 100% and then back to 0, up and down kind of randomly, but when i use task manager to view the usage it reports about 45% usage consistently with no spiking or drops in usage.

why does the radeon software report differently than the task manager?

  • 4 weeks later...

its probably fine. unless you're using multiple displays, when you pop out to check adrenaline or taskmanager its temporarily doing ramping down then up.

run something like afterburner to see it real time.

i5-14600KF // 120x38MM Cooler Master AIO // B760i // 64GB DDR5 6000 // PNY RTX 5070 // Cooler Master NCORE 100 Max // Cooler Master V SFX-850 Gold // UWQHD AOC Display

Are you viewing these monitors mid-game?  That would be why utilization drops.  When you switch to adrenalin, the GPU has less to render.  The GPU only renders whats on screen.  Are you seeing FPS drops midgame?  That would be a sign something is wrong with the GPU.
