RAM Slots

Go to solution Solved by Eigenvektor,

Ideally, all of it is going to your CPU ;) If 2 GB are shown as hardware reserved, that means it could e.g. be a configuration issue in Windows: https://appuals.com/windows-10-wont-use-full-ram/

System
OEM/Model: HP Pro 3400 MT
Motherboard: Foxconn 2abf CPU: Intel i7-2600K GPU: PNY Geforce GTX560 ti RAM: 2x 2gb Crucial

For some reason my system only is using one of the RAM slots at a time, I've tested each slot by itself with ram.

I start the computer and the BIOS tells me there's only 2gb in there even with both sticks in, I ran CPU-Z and resource manager.

Cpu-z told me there 4gb of ram and RM told there's only 2gb
How can I get my system to use both of my ram slots?

If you open task manager, does it show 2 GB as hardware reserved?

Are the DIMM's the same model (And have you tested both individually)? This isn't always necessary, but there are certain DIMM's which are incompatible with each other. It could also be a BIOS configuration issue (Although I doubt it could be resolved if so, as prebuilt boards typically have limited configurations). If you haven't done so already, make sure the BIOS is up to date.

If it isn't a DIMM or BIOS issue, you'll need to test the 2600K in a different motherboard (preferably not prebuilt) to verify it isn't a memory controller problem. I have a Celeron G440 that has a very similar issue.
