Gaming AMP/DAC

So I am finally getting sick of my audio technica ad700xs. They have had a good run and still sound great, however I have decided to start searching for a different pair. I am thinking either either the dt990/880s. I've heard the higher resistance versions sound better so I don't know how much truth there is to that, but either way I'd like a DAC/AMP to power them. This should give me a significant audio quality increase from using the built in mobo sound input. 

 

My question is this. For gaming/music listening would an astro mixamp be a better option than just a plain old DAC/AMP combo?
