I'm having issues with my graphics card because it keeps crashing whenever I play games. When it crashes, it'll display a random blank colored screen on both my monitors and won't allow me to use anything on the OS. The tricky part is the crashes are intermittent. Some days it'll crash maybe 5-10 minutes in game while other days it'll allow me to play for my entire regular session before crashing. I initially assumed it was overheating so i installed MSI afterburner to increase fan speed but even that didn't work. The idle temps are between 32-45c and 55-75c under load depending on what game i'm playing. To reinforce it, I changed the thermal paste on the card but that also didn't help. I updated both the OS and the graphics drivers but that also didn't help. To which i uninstalled the current and installed an older driver from February. To which that also didn't help. It's a GTX 970 so warranty's out of the question. I really hope there are some other suggestions before I come to the conclusion that my card is dying and needs a replacement. Any suggestions are helpful (:

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16 gbs (8x2) DDR4-3200

GPU: PNY GeForce GTX 970 4GB (blower cooler)

PSU: TX650 650W

If an OS re-installation and driver updates didn't do anything (including DDU driver removal) that does indicate your card is probably starting to die. It doesn't get any more back to basics than a fresh Windows 10 installation.

You could try testing the card on another system. I think your symptoms indicate a possible issue with your card's VRAM, usually colour artifacts I think are a VRAM issue but I'm not 100% sure, so long as it's *some* type of hardware issue I just replace the card.

Shame I sold my 2x 970's about a year ago, else I would've helped you out until the 3000 series came out. :(

I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. I'm a bit tight on funds right now so i guess i'll have to wait a while before i get a new card. How would i use DDU though? I had considered that, but didn't know how to configure a driver uninstall since the options were greyed out. I resorted to just booting in safe mode and deleting the NVIDIA files. adn installing a driver from february which was before the crashes were happening. They only cash under load which is helpful.

Okay so download DDU from here.

Extract the file until you get to the programs folder with the files inside.

Boot into Safe Mode

Run the DDU program executable in the extracted folder, and when it opens select on the right hand side GPU and then underneath NVIDIA, then on the left hand side click "Reboot and DO NOT restart"

Then when it's finished install the latest NVIDIA driver you downloaded from here, when installing the NVIDIA driver select Custom Installation and click "Clean Installation" or the likes to clear whatever it can and ensure no leftovers remain as settings.

So i Uninstalled the drivers using DDU last night and installed the latest ones and for now the drivers seem to be holding up. I've done multiple raid on tarkov which is a good sign because upon loading the map and the loot the card would crash 2 minutes in. I'll update if it crashes or not. Thanks for the suggestion
