"Since I want to build this PC with my friend on 18. March, but want to hold a 1-week lan-party after that, can I give the HDD an OS, Drivers, Basic Program and games via connecting it to my old pc?" >.<

You can but a fresh install with the correct motherboard is recommended for drivers and activation.

Hey guys,

So I got my finances to bring my new gaming PC (not insane to be honest xD) to life together. But I got this strange question: Since I want to build this PC with my friend on 18. March, but want to hold a 1-week lan-party after that, can I give the HDD an OS, Drivers, Basic Program and games via connecting it to my old pc?

Specs!

Old shitheap

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P31-ES3G (DAT BOARD THO)
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q8200

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5670 (was an entry-level card even back when it came out)

RAM: dual channel 4GB DDR2

Storage: Samsung Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB (7200 RPM dead silent SATA 2 Hard drive. Decent, tho it does make strange noises when booting)

Holy Light V1.0 (yet to be named due to lack of funds, planning to fill all fan mounts with white LED fans, hence the name)

Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0

CPU: AMD FX 8350 Black Edition

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 Windforce 2GB

RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 1600 MHz Dual-Channel 8GB

Storage: WD Black 1TB HDD

Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

I'd suggest planning later. ~2-3 days at most before you buy. Parts and prices change frequently so any parts list you come up with now will likely be obsolete by the time you're ready to buy.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/
Also, make sure to quote a post or tag a member when replying or else they won't get a notification that you replied to them.

I have everything planned out (PSU is Corsair CX600), I just need to know if I can pre-configure my WD Black 1TB HDD for this build.

Know what, I'm gonna make a second thread to ask the people of the forums to help me get the best PC I can possibly get for my $1170 budget.

What do you mean by preconfigure?

Well is it possible to have it work in the new PC right away, after setting it as boot drive? Well, yeah you cant tell for sure, but theoretically is it possible?

And won't hinder any future functionality?

Nope.

Well, probably not.
