Need an explanation

Anagram

So I just finished building my new computer and decided to test out the on-board audio on the asus hero board. To my surprise compared to my steelseries USB soundcard, the sound of the on-board is significantly less crisp, more muddy, and generally an overall bad experience at the same volume level. Plugging it back into the soundcard, the quality of the sound blows the on-board out of the water. I am using the DT880s, maybe the onboard cannot power it or is something else going on here?

It's very possible there isn't enough power coming out of the i/o. Wouldn't be surprising at all.

250ohms. I would like to add that on my gf's cheap $100 mobo, the on-board sound is fine. Compared to my hero board, it is so much worse than her mobo.
