hi Anyone reading this :-)

I need some help diagnosing my PC problem and after exhausting my knowledge and Google-Fu ;-) thought i'd throw it out there for some suggestions.

History:

I built my own PC about 6 months ago the first sign of trouble was faulty RAM during the build, which the vendor replaced and all was good.

but a month after the build my PC would go into a Boot loop (no POST) but only when i turned it on for the day, The boot loop would sort itself out after about 30 seconds then it would work fine at times i left my PC on 3 days without any problems.

The problem:

However recently the PC would turn itself off during a game (i play StarCraft) or when i'm doing a benchmark test so in effect high GPU usage.

My first troubleshooting was to un-plug the GPU and run on the Discrete Grahpics it would boot into the BIOS and wouldn't boot into windows 10 (i have a Samsung Nvme).

Thinking it was the Graphics card i bought a new one (just needed an excuse really ;-)) it worked the first couple of times, but then the same problem happened again.

So then I pulled everything out and put it back together again but still got the same problem goes into the BIOS on the discrete graphics but if I plug in the graphics card i get the boot loop.

I also replaced the motherboard but getting the same problem, is a 650 watt power supply to little or do you think the PSU is faulty.

thanks for reading this and appreicate any suggestions to stop me from losing the plot.

these are my specs

  • Core i5-9600k

  • NZXT kraken x52 cooler

  • Corsair H500 RGB case

  • 32gb RAM

  • RTX 2060

  • 1tb Nvme 970 evo plus

  • 256gb SSD

  • 1 tB sata 7200rpm HDD

  • NZXT cooler

  • evga 650watt PSU

Explain this further please.

What do you get when trying to boot into Windows?

Install any flavor of linux on a usb...boot from it...if it works..then you got either corrupt OS on your nvme...or nvme is going bad.  I too play Starcraft...that game never gets old.

I agree with this and I would add that your PSU *might* have bad power delivery it's not difinitive but it's possible

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Audio: Logitech G432, Moondrop Starfield, Mic: Razer Siren Mini (White).

Phone: Pixel 3a (Purple-ish).

thanks stu_Bear.  I tried a linux boot and it only works on the discrete graphics card however if i plug the Graphics card in i don't even get as far as the BIOS. however in saying that after i flashed the BIOS with the latest version it's now showing the same problem, So  no POST nothing on the screen just constantly restarting after 3 seconds.

I'll replace the PSU and post back.

thanks for your comments.

P.S. - agreed StarCraft keeps on keeping on :-).

hey Radium_Angel,

I don't get as far as the OS boot don't even get the BIOS on the screen so No key combination is of any use the PC reboots after 3 seconds.

So if you don't even get to BIOS, then we have larger issues.

What I would do is this:

Remove/unplug anything not required to POST (show on screen)

Take everything out of the case (you might have a short/grounding issue) and place on something non-conductive like a phone book.

Use only 1 stick of ram, the built-in video card, and of course the CPU.

See if you can get it to post and get in to BIOS.

Navigate around BIOS, no need to make changes, I'm simply curious if the system locks up.

If it does, report back.

If it doesn't, turn off. Plug in a single hard drive with the OS on it, and see if you can get to Windows.

Report back.

Thanks everyone for your advice, finally got it working after replacing the PSU.

Might be placebo effect but it feels like the pc is running faster and is noticeably quieter so I guess I had a dodgy PSU all along.

Thanks again I can go back to playing starcraft 👍😁

Glad everything is going well now   thought it could be the PSU guess I was right somehow  :)
